Thiamin (Vitamin B1) is part of a group of B Vitamins which convert carbohydrates into glucose which the body uses for energy. Together they are the B Complex vitamins. Because the body stores very little thiamin, it is almost totally dependent on getting enough through food or supplements. The classic deficiency of Thiamin is Beriberi.
